WASTE 2 ART RETURNS TO WEDDIN SHIRE FOR 2025
Weddin Shire Council is proud to once again host the 2025 NetWaste Waste 2 Art Program as part of the Grenfell Henry Lawson Festival of Arts.
This much-loved competition invites local students to transform everyday waste into imaginative works of art, blending creativity with environmental education. This year’s theme, “Toys”, encourages participants to reflect on play, nostalgia, and sustainability, reimagining toys using discarded and recycled materials, from plastic bottles to scrap metal and beyond.
Entries are open to all local students and close on 29 May 2025. Artworks will be displayed at the Community Hub Building from 6 - 9 June 2025 as part of the Grenfell Henry Lawson Festival offering attendees a free exhibition that celebrates innovation and environmental awareness.
Winners will be announced during the festival, with successful entrants going on to represent Weddin Shire at the Regional Exhibition, hosted by the Western Plains Cultural Centre in Dubbo. Judging criteria includes creativity, originality, and effective use of recycled materials.
“Waste 2 Art is more than just a competition, it’s a great opportunity for young people to showcase their talents while learning about the importance of recycling and sustainability,” said Mayor Paul Best. “We’re intrigued to see what local students create under this year’s playful and thought-provoking theme.”
As a proud member of NetWaste, Weddin Shire Council is committed to supporting initiatives that inspire community participation and promote waste reduction through creative expression.
