POSITION VACANT |CIVIL CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING TRAINEE

The local Council, Weddin Shire, is seeking applications from interested persons who wish to effectively complete a traineeship in Civil Construction and enable completion of a range of civil construction and maintenance activities with engineering precision designed to meet Operational Plan requirements. This role will have hands on experience with roads construction as well as ability to assist Council’s engineering team.

The position is part of the Office of Local Government Fresh Start program.

Key Responsibilities

Within the area of responsibility, this role is required to: 

  • Effectively complete Certificate III in Civil Construction (Civil Construction General) (RII20920) during traineeship of two years.
  • Understand and assist in undertaking Plant Operator and labouring activities as part of Council's Operational Plan.
  • Assist Works Engineer with the works program including undertaking basic procurement processes and assist with engineering project planning.
  • Repair roads, pavements, pathways, footpaths and bikeways using tools equipment and/or machinery.
  • Install and maintain roadside fixtures, signposts, guideposts, barriers, peg out   worksites, undertake fencing, clear and remove vegetation, rubbish ad debris from throughfares, roadsides and streets. 
  • Assist with set up of formwork, concreting, site preparation, and remedial activities including culverts, headwalls, pollutant traps and other prefabricated components. 
  • Maintain surface drainage systems and assist with repair and maintenance of   storm water infrastructure, including installation and maintenance of pipes.
  • Ensure risk assessments are completed for all activities and compliance with WHS policy, procedures, legislation and SWMS.
  • Subject to qualification undertake Traffic Control Duties.
  • Undertake duties as directed. 

Essential requirements

  • Class C Drivers Licence (Provisional acceptable)

Condition of employment

  • Trainee rate of pay in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.
  • Satisfactory health assessment, drug and alcohol screening, police and working with children check is a pre-requisite to an offer of employment.
  • Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award and Council’s salary structure.
