NOTICE TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS –PIGEON REDUCTION
18 SEPTEMBER – 19 SEPTEMBER 2023 (INCLUSIVE - OVERNIGHT)
Council wish to advise the general community that as a result of community members and business owners raising health and amenity concerns caused by pigeons in the Main Street area of Grenfell, Council has engaged a professional pest company to reduce pigeon numbers.
The work will involve the humane targeted shooting of pigeons in a number of strategic locations within and surrounding the Main Street of Grenfell and the Council Depot on South Street. This will be completed at night using professional equipment, including high powered precision air riffles with silencers. Due to the accuracy of the equipment, no damage will be caused to buildings or equipment.
The pigeon shooting is scheduled to occur on the night of Monday 18 September 2023 and early hours on Tuesday 19 September 2023. This will be weather dependant and may change if conditions are not suitable or unforeseen circumstances occur with the contractor.
The contractor will be liaising with the local Police and have spotters in the area to ensure that the shooting is undertaken safely without any danger to members of the public or building occupants. The contactor will attempt to collect and remove all dead pigeons, however there is potential that some pigeons may not be able to be collected.
