The matter was considered at the 15 September 2022 Ordinary Meeting and endorsed by Council as per resolution 250/22. This public notice is to provide the community information on the revocation and retirement of the policies. The summary of why these policies were revoked and retired included:

  • Duplication with existing legislation,
  • Legislation that has been repealed and no longer applicable,
  • Technological changes,
  • Duplication with the integrated planning and reporting framework requirements, and
  • Lack of applicability and reflection in the operational budget to support the policy.

The operation of Council is guided by a range of laws, regulations and policies to support the organisation to make good decisions. From time to time, some policies become redundant through changes in legislation, changes to the way the organisation undertakes business or consolidation of historic policies with new combined policies. This has resulted in the revocation and retirement of the fourteen (14) policies.

Council is now implementing a rolling program to review, amend, delete or consolidate as part of our commitment to continuous improvement. Each month at the Council meeting, staff will be submitting a number of policies to the Council for review. We start with a draft policy, where staff prepare the information and provide Council the background to consider. Subject to Council’s endorsement, the draft policy is then put out on public exhibition for a period of 28 days but no less than 42 days, to invite everyone to provide comment or a submission to the policy. We table the final draft to Council for formal adoption of the policy or otherwise adopted by Council. Drafts can be further amended to go out again for public exhibition. We look forward to working with you in this genuine policy making process.
