Building
Do you know about Basix? BASIX (the Building Sustainability Index), is a new planning tool that affects anyone building a new home. If you are going to build a new home, you need a BASIX Certificate to submit with your development application and from July 1 2005 Council can no longer accept a development application for a new home without a BASIX Certificate. By applying practical measures to the overall design of your new home, BASIX ensures there is the potential to save energy and water. The idea is to save not only the environment, but your hard earned money. To get your BASIX Certificate, you need to show that your proposed home will be designed and built to save energy and water. BASIX offers a range of design choices including using insulation, window glazing, wastewater for garden use, skylights for natural light, landscaping that requires less water and so on. The BASIX tool for regional NSW is now available at www.basix.nsw.gov.au. What building work do I need approval for? New dwellings, additions, sheds, garages, new shops and other commerical premises, change of use of a building and some demolitions. For more information on what building work requires approval, contact Weddin Shire Council. It is recommded you inquire to Council about all intended building work, however small. |
