Draft - No Smoking Policy

The Council at its meeting held on 15th October 2009, resolved to adopt a Draft No Smoking Policy - Public Places and Council Owned Land.

In the interests of providing a smoke-free environment, Council will discourage smoking in all public places and Council controlled land, in particular places used for recreation and places used by children.

Council declare smoke-free zones in the following areas:

Within 10 metres of all children's play areas and facilities for use by children.

  • On all playing fields and sporting grounds(the areas commonly used by players and officials)
  • Footpath areas within 10 metres of the entrances to Council Operational buildings.

Council has created this policy in accordance with Division 8 of the Local Government Act 1993 and the relevant provisions of the Smoke Free Environment Act 2000.

The policy if adopted will be enforceable under Section 632 of the Local Government Act 1993 - "Acting contrary to notices erected by councils" -

Written comments will be received at the Weddin Shire Office until 4 pm Wednesday 18th November 2009.
