Library Lines

Last modified: October 16, 2009 - 10:36 AM

A summary of news from the Library each week published here and also in the Grenfell Record on Wednesdays.

LIBRARY LINES for week begining 12th October 2009 .

Children’s Week is celebrated nationally during the last week of October and this year the Grenfell Library is celebrating with the launch of Grenfell StoryTime on National Children’s Day on Wednesday 28th October. A visiting presenter will be reading a story and presenting craft activities from 10.30 am with balloons and other giveaways. Afterwards the children and their carers will be walking to Taylor Park to enjoy lunch - fruit and water provided, please B.Y.O. lunch. StoryTime will be held fortnightly thereafter until the end of the year. Not having a regular StoryTime has been a major concern and I am delighted that another presenter has taken on the role.

There is a varied of collection of items on the New Materials Table this week including some adult fiction, three new large print titles, a romantic mystery on cassette, books on China, dinosaurs and cricket skills, and a CDROM  “Aussie Tycoon”, which is an Australianized variant on Monopoly – good for developing strategic thinking. The librarian is planning a buying spree on popular fiction at Target shortly ….

Noted with sadness is the passing of Mrs Moraig Godfrey. Moraig was a community representative on the Library Committee for many years and also a foundation member of the Friends of Grenfell Library. Her gingerbread was a welcome contribution to many catering efforts.

And speaking of the Friends of Grenfell Library, their next meeting will be held in the library on 27th November with the main business being the packing of more ‘Giftpaks for Babies’
